Banana Protein Pancakes

I was very kindly gifted a tub of Garden Of Life‘s* Raw Organic Vanilla Protein Powder and what better recipe to test it with than pancakes!

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop of vegan protein
  • 2 scoops of oats (I use the scoop in the protein to measure this)
  • 1 large banana
  • 150ml plant milk

Method

  1. Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. This is your batter.
  2. Heat a non stick pan on high and use oil if you wish, my pan doesn’t require any so I skip this!
  3. Pour your batter into small circles in the pan, mine is 28cm wide and I can usually fit about 3 pancakes at a time. The size of your pancakes is completely up to you but I find they have a tendency to break if they’re too big.
  4. Smother in whatever toppings you fancy and enjoy!

Sukin Sensitive Skincare Review

As someone who has suffered with hormonal acne for as long as I can remember, skincare for me can make a huge difference in the appearance and texture of my skin, especially when I get an aggressive breakout.

I have used Sukin for the last couple of years, testing out various different products to see which are best for my skin, and I feel like I have finally found a combination that really works for me!

Sukin are an Australian, completely vegan and cruelty free brand, with all of their packaging being recyclable. Their ingredients are lovely and natural, and they pride themselves on their no list (ingredients you won’t find in their products!)

Sensitive Calming Night Cream

This has got to be my favourite product out of everything I’ve tried by Sukin. Its thick consistency means you only have to use the smallest amount, and every night I use it I wake up with beautifully hydrated, plump skin. I definitely notice a difference when I skip using it for a night! It’s a little pricier than the other products like the facial moisturiser, but I find it lasts me much longer, Ive had this tub for around 3 months now and only just used half the pot!

Sensitive Cleansing Lotion

For a long time I had been using the Foaming facial cleanser, but I find that it dries my skin out a little too much and as I have oily skin it then goes into overdrive producing even more oil, not ideal. So I decided to switch to the sensitive cleansing lotion, since I already knew I loved the night cream from the same range. It was strange to go from a gel cleanser to a cream based one, as I was so used to that squeaky clean face feel you get from a gel cleanser, but the cream leaves my face perfectly soft and supple, and is so gentle it doesn’t irritate any of my breakouts which is a common problem for me with most cleansers!

Sensitive Facial Moisturiser

This is the only product out of the range which doesn’t blow me away, but I only think it’s because I love the night cream so much. It works well as my daily morning moisturiser, and is a perfect base under my every day makeup where I don’t use a primer! It’s nice and lightweight and doesn’t give your skin that claggy feel that other moisturisers can.

 

Overall, Sukin have quickly become my favourite skincare brand. They’re affordable, natural and have good ethics at the core of the company. You can purchase Sukin products from Boots, Holland and Barrett and the Sukin website itself.

Chef and Brewer – The Prince Of Wales Esher

When my mum suggested we go to this local pub for a little lunch in the sun this week, I was a little hesitant as the last time I ended up having a meal there, the only vegan food available was a noodle dish with the meat removed (it looked very sad and unappetising). None the less, it is a dog friendly pub which meant I could take my little Yoda with me so I was more than appreciative of that, although I didn’t have high hopes for the food.

How wrong I was. The new menu featured not 1 or 2, but 3 vegan mains, plus a desert! I was absolutely spoilt for choice which is a nice change from most pubs having maybe 1 option or just the trusty chips and side salad (sadly I think we’ve all been there).

The options to choose from were a garden bowl with warm potatoes and salad, an asian noodle salad with carrot and cucumber ribbons, and the ultimate vegan burger. Maybe it’s just me, but when I go for a pub lunch I’m going for a proper pub lunch, so the burger really was the best option.

Wow! Look at that sexy vegan burger! The menu described it as, ‘a delicious meat-free burger, topped with fried onions and a melting vegan slice, in a toasted poppy seed bun with mayo and shredded iceberg lettuce. Served with house slaw, barbecue dip and chips‘. The burger patty was amazingly realistic, very similar to a Linda McCartney 1/4 pounder, and I’m pretty sure the ‘melting vegan slice’ was violife, which in my opinion is the best burger cheese going, so I was more than happy! My mum ordered the same and was shocked at how much it tastes like dairy cheese.

And the best part was, at £9.29 it was the cheapest burger meal on the whole menu, which makes a change from a lot of places having vegan food that is ridiculously overpriced in comparison to the omnivorous equivalent!

The vegan pudding option was a chocolate torte which I was way too full up to try, but it sounded very similar to the Zizzi version so if that’s your cup of tea then definitely worth a try.

I was so pleasantly surprised by my experience here and would definitely recommend you try out the vegan options at your local Chef and Brewer, I look forward to what else they have in the future with new menus.

Mr Singh’s Sauces

So it’s been a little while since my last post and I’ve been itching to write with no inspiration but then as if by magic what popped through the door but a lovely parcel from Mr Singh’s Sauces!

I first had a try of this company in my subscription box to The Vegan Kind a couple of months ago with their Chilli, Lemon and Cracked Salt flavour crisps which I absolutely LOVED. Now I am not usually one for too much spice because I’m admittedly a massive pansy, but I do like a nice chilli flavour and these crisps really hit the spot, and if you’re like me with your heat tolerance,  paired with a big tub of hummus you have got a winning combo!

Mr Singh’s are a family run business from East London and one of the friendliest companies I’ve ever had the pleasure to speak to, so I was more than happy when they offered to send me some of their sauces to try out.

I got so excited when I saw the BBQ Chilli flavour because I am a fiend for barbecue flavoured anything. I knew I had to pop out to grab some jackfruit for the ultimate test (they’re now selling cans for £1.20 in sainsbury’s fyi!), and wow I am so glad this is how I tried it out! The chilli flavour in the sauce gave just enough heat that you can taste it without overpowering the flavour, and the sweetness from the jackfruit balanced out the spice so well. Pop it into a wrap with salad or over some rice and veggies and you’ve got a deeeelish meal.

Quick recipe

Drain a can of jackfruit while your frying pan heats up.

Add jackfruit to the pan and cook on high until it’s goes almost crispy and you can start to shred it with a fork.

Add as little or as much of your sauce of choice as you’d like! I used a fair bit because I like it saucy.

Continue to cook on a medium heat so that the sauce doesn’t burn the pan, until it thickens and all the jackfruit is coated.

And serve! Super easy and really tasty.

Next up to try was the Hot Punjabi Chilli sauce, which I drizzled over some sesame broccoli and noodles. If you are a fan of Sriracha then this is the one for you. Perfectly spicy with a slight sweetness from the molasses coming through. Just try not to go overboard with the drizzling or your mouth may be on fire!

Now for someone who can hardly handle spice, I really, really like Mr Singh’s product’s because although there is heat, the flavours that power over that are incredible and so tasty.
